• Why Ulaa Hotel Patagonia?

• Where is Ulaa Hotel Patagonia located?
In the X Region of Chile. The closest cities (accessible by plane) are Osorno and Puerto Montt, and the nearest pueblos are Segundo Corral (6 km. from the lodge, population 80) and Primer Corral (30 km. from the lodge, population 36). The latitude and longitude for Ulaa are: 42º 05´23,3´´ S and 71º48´57,2´´ W.
• What is the weather like in Ulaa Hotel Patagonia?
Don´t forget that in the southern hemisphere the seasons are "opposite" those of the northern hemisphere. That means that January-March is summer, April-June is fall, July-September is winter, and October-December is spring. Check out year-round averages for Puerto Montt, Chile and Bariloche, Argentina at weather.com. The weather at Ulaa is somewhere between the two areas.
• Which airport should I fly into?
Though we are located in Chile, we recommend arriving through Argentina, at the San Carlos de Bariloche airport. This will probably mean a connecting flight through Buenos Aires.
• Do I really have to place a reservation, or can I just show up?
Due to the remote nature of Ulaa, you would definitely have to place a reservation.
• How do I carry my luggage around?
From the time you arrive at the Bariloche airport, we will take care of your luggage for you. No worries!
• Do I need to rent a car? How can I get around Hotel Patagonia?
The best part about Ulaa is that you won´t need a car at all. There are no roads anywhere near the property, so the main means of transportation is horse. We have plenty of horses available, and you can hire a guide along with the horses so you can explore the forest. If you prefer to travel by water, we have canoes. Or you can hike.
• Are children allowed in Ulaa Hotel Patagonia?
Sorry, only children over 12 years old are allowed.
• Where is the nearest ATM?
It is best to bring cash (USD) in small denominations for tips, as there will be no opportunities along the way to exchange to Chilean pesos. All additional spa treatments, drinks, and services may be paid for with a major credit card.
• How do I stay in touch with family?
By choice, we have no in-room telephones or televisions, but you can always stay in touch using our central satellite phone or VoIP in the main lodge. We also have satellite internet service. Personal cellular phones will definitely not function in Ulaa, though Globalstar satellite phones do.
• Is there internet access in Ulaa Hotel Patagonia?
There is fast wireless internet access in the Main Lodge. You can connect from inside the lodge, outside on the lakeview deck, or in the quincho.
• I have special dietary restrictions. Can they be accommodated?
It is important for us to know in advance of any dietary restrictions, allergies, or special medical conditions, so that our chefs and service staff can be prepared to serve you. We always offer a wide variety of vegetarian side dishes, using fresh fruits and vegetables from our organic farm and orchard.
• Is Ulaa Hotel Patagonia wheelchair accessible?
We apologize that due to the wild nature of the surroundings, Ulaa does not have the installations to accommodate physically challenged guests, and our property is not wheelchair accessible.
• What time does it get dark at night?
It gets dark around 10:00 p.m. during the summer months.
• Does Ulaa have air conditioning?
No, the summers are not hot enough to require air conditioning.
• Do the cabins get cold at night?
Evenings are cool, even in the summer, and all cabins have heating to maintain a comfortable temperature. All beds have down duvets, produced with a "painless" German method in which the geese are shaved, not plucked.
• Can I drink the water in the Hotel Patagonia?
Yes! All running water in the cabanas comes from the streams, which are fed by glacier runoff. This is pure, clean water. When you are hiking around the property, take a straw with you, not a water bottle. All lakes and streams are drinkable and the water tastes great!
• Are there mosquitoes at Ulaa Hotel Patagonia ?
No, there are no mosquitoes, though there are horseflies during the summer months of December and January.
• Are there bears in the forest?
There are no bears in the forest, though there are plenty of other birds and wild animals.
• Can I bring my pets?
Sorry, pets are not accepted at Ulaa. We do have plenty of other wildlife for you to enjoy, though.
• How do we handle tipping?
It is customary in Chile to tip 10%.
• Are non-smoking rooms available?
Ulaa Hotel Patagonia is a spa and most guests are health-conscious. All rooms and cabins at Ulaa are non-smoking, as are the general dining areas. For security reasons, we also request that guests not smoke in the forest, as improper disposal of cigarette butts can lead to a forest fire, irreparably damaging our fragile eco-system. Smokers are encouraged to do so on the beach, which is just a short walk from all cabins. There is a smoking area there with a bench and ash tray available.
