Where is Ulaa Patagonia located?
It is located in the 10th region of the Chilean Lakes District known as Los Lagos. The closest cities (accessible by plane) are Osorno and Puerto Montt, and the nearest pueblos are Segundo Corral (6 km. from the lodge, population 80) and Primer Corral (30 km. from the lodge, population 36). Ulaa’s coordinates are: 42º 05´23,3´´ S and 71º48´57,2´´ W.

What is the weather like at Ulaa Patagonia?
Don´t forget that in the Southern Hemisphere the seasons are "opposite" those of the Northern Hemisphere. That means that January-March is Summer, April-June is Fall, July-September is Winter, and October-December is Spring. Check out year-round average temperatures for Puerto Montt, Chile and San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina at weather.com. The weather at Ulaa is somewhere between the two areas. As the lodge is not located high above sea level, temperatures are pleasant year-round.

Which is the nearest airport?
Though we are located in Chile, we recommend arriving through Argentina, at the San Carlos de Bariloche Airport. For more details, please refer to our “Location” section on this website.

Do I really have to place a reservation, or can I just show up?
Due to Ulaa’s remote location, it is advisable to place a reservation.

¿Do I need to rent a car? How can I get around?
The best part about Ulaa is that you won´t need a car at all. There are no roads near the property, and access is by boat or trekking. Ulaa can be explored on horseback or on foot.

Are children allowed at Ulaa Patagonia?
Sorry, only children over 15 years old are allowed.

How do I stay in touch with my family?
In keeping with our philosophy, we have no in-room telephones or televisions, but you can always stay in touch using our satellite internet service available only during generator hours.

Is there internet access at Ulaa Patagonia?
There is wireless internet access in the Main Lodge while our generator is working.

I have special dietary restrictions. Can they be accommodated?
It is important for us to know in advance of any dietary restrictions, allergies, or special medical conditions, so we can be prepare to receive you. Please inform us of any special dietary requirement with a minimum of 15 days in advance, so all preparations may be made. Special meals may imply an extra cost.

Is Ulaa Patagonia wheelchair accessible?
We apologize. Due to the wild nature of the surroundings, Ulaa does not have the proper facilities to accommodate physically challenged guests, and our property is not wheelchair accessible.

What time does it get dark at night?
It gets dark around 10:00 p.m. during the summer months.

Does Ulaa have air conditioning?
No, summers are not hot enough to require air conditioning.

Do the cabins get cold at night?
Evenings are cool, even in the summer, and all cabins have heating to maintain a comfortable temperature. All beds have down duvets, produced with a "painless" German method in which the geese are shaved, not plucked.

Can I drink the water at the Patagonia?
Yes! All running water in the cabins comes from the streams, which are fed by glacier runoff. This is pure, clean water.

Are there mosquitoes at Ulaa Patagonia?
No, there are no mosquitoes, though there are horseflies during the summer months of December and January.

Are there bears in the forest?
There are no bears in the forest, though there are plenty of other birds and wild animals.

Can I bring my pets?
Sorry, pets are not allowed at Ulaa Patagonia. We do have plenty of other wildlife for you to enjoy, though.

How do I handle tipping?
It is customary in Chile to tip 10%.

Are non-smoking rooms available?
All rooms and cabins at Ulaa are non-smoking, as are all public areas. For security reasons, we also request that guests not smoke in the forest, as improper disposal of cigarette butts can lead to a forest fire, irreparably damaging our fragile ecosystem. Those who wish to smoke are invited to do so on the beach, which is just a short walk from all cabins.
