EcoTulum is a concept that goes beyond place and time. Located in different latitudes of the world, all of our resorts share a vision and a philosophy of life that is reflected in our services. From the turquoise of the Caribbean sea to the emerald green of Patagonia (Ulaa, our Spa Patagonia), in EcoTulum we believe that is essential to provide a unique experience by harmonizing body, mind and soul, in complete connection with Nature. Under these principles, we encourage ecotourism, the development of local cultures and the protections of their values.

Each one of our eco-hotels is located in a natural paradise, specially chosen not only for their beauty but also for the value of the local aboriginal cultures. The fusion of Mayan (Mexico) and Mapuche (Ulaa Spa Patagonia) wisdom allows us to share with our guests learning processes full of magical experiences.

In EcoTulum we consider that our dairy operation must have the minimum impact on the environment. In this sense, we apply procedures and training programs for our personnel and guests about processing and recycling solid wastes. We also use ecological engines for our boats, we economize water use and we promote the protection of biodiversity.

Furthermore, we believe it is essential that our visitors get involved with the environment and its residents to learn from flora, fauna, local legends, anecdotes of pioneers and hermits, and local habits. The contact with the Earth, its people and their way of life provide the ideal conditions for an unforgettable experience.

In EcoTulum we pro-actively encourage the development and participation of local community as one of the main principles of ecotourism. For the construction of Ulaa (our Spa Patagonia) we use local materials provided by residents and employ people of the close community of Segundo Corral. We also organize educational projects, like English lessons, Internet and ecotourism workshops. Our premise is that the community receives tangible benefits from our activities in their region, that their cultural values and traditions are maintained and that the negative social impact is reduced to its minimum expression.

Ulaa Spa Patagonia: Our history

With just four original cabanas, EcoTulum was born in the spring of 1998, with the first eco-resort, Cabañas Copal, which grew gradually to its current 47 cabañas.
In July 2003, EcoTulum started a new proposal of non-conventional premium hotels under the name Azulik, five villas that became fifteen by December of the same year.
Due to the great success of Azulik and Cabañas Copal, Zahra opened in fall 2003, an eco-resort of 22 cabañas and rooms that was designed to fit the needs of those families who want to experience our Eco concept.

MayaSpa began with its first Mayan massage therapist at Copal in January 2003, gradually expanded to its current diverse treatments at all EcoTulum hotels.
Hurricanes Emily and Wilma of 2005 gave us an additional opportunity to upgrade and refresh all rooms at EcoTulum Resorts in Mexico.

With our roots in magical, mystical Mexico, we chose Patagonia as a new place to find a special connection with the Earth. Since the first moment, the combination of the local culture and the energy center of Lago Puelo made us feel at home.

Our Mission, “to charm and harmonize our guests” is what makes us unique –that is why we call ourselves “encantadores”. In EcoTulum we create a work environment where people with energy, creativity and commitment join together to reach common goals, developing their individual talents.
